Miss Metro 2013

I decided to compete in my first preliminary pageant of the year after competing in the 2012 Miss Arkansas pageant. This pageant was the first pageant in Arkansas where 4 girls were crowned in one pageant. On August 11, I was crowned Miss Metro 2013 and one of my good friends, Brooke Ault, was crowned Miss Little Rock. Two beautiful teens were also crowned and they are Gracie Stover, Miss Little Rock's Outstanding Teen and my sister queen Blair Wortsmith, Miss Metro's Outstanding Teen. I can't even express how excited I am to represent Central Arkansas this summer at the Miss Arkansas pageant. The night I was crowned I was also blessed with two of the most amazing directors, Mr. Rusty and Mrs. Lori Hart! I'm so excited and ready to start preparing and working for the 2013 Miss Arkansas pageant! Thank you for all of your support and kind words! God Bless!

My Miss Arkansas Experience

I had a very wonderful Miss Arkansas experience! Many people say that the week is so exhausting that after you leave you don't really want to talk about going back and competing. However, I felt very differently and knew the minute I left that I wanted to come back and have another shot at the crown. Throughout the week they kept us very busy with rehearsals, luckily I had my interview on Monday so I got that over with the first full day I was there. After that, I could focus on the on stage competition portion of the pageant. I sang "Man Of La Mancha" on Wednesday night, competed in on stage question and swimsuit on Thursday night, and competed in evening gown on Friday night. It was a great experience and I couldn't have performed any better that week. On Saturday night they announced the top ten semi-finalsts and crowned a new Miss Arkansas. I did not make the top ten, but I was still so excited to have had the opportunity to compete at Miss Arkansas. I've always been told that your first year you should always go into the Miss Arkansas pageant expecting nothing and that you would be lucky to hear your name announced on the stage for one award. I won the Lanie Nail Scholarship for the Education Major that scored the highest points in private interview, which was a $500 scholarship! I think I was more excited about this award then any award I have ever won! I went into the pageant expecting nothing and came out with an interview award! I was more than blessed to have won a scholarship at this year's pageant and to be able to say I competed with 46 of the most talented women in Arkansas. After the awards were announced, Sloane Roberts was crowned as our Miss Arkansas 2012. I couldn't have been happier for such a wonderful well-rounded woman to win the title and the crown of Miss Arkansas. She is so deserving and I couldn't have asked for a better person and talented role-model to represent our state at Miss America this January! The Miss Arkansas pageant is definitely an experience that has changed my life forever and I'm forever grateful to have met and became friends with some of the best women across our state!

Meadow Park and Harmony Grove Schools

I recently got to speak to children at Harmony Grove and at Meadow Park schools! At Harmony Grove I spoke to all of the kindergarteners and first graders and at Meadow Park I spoke to a pre-kindergarten class! I took a different approach with my pre-kindergarten class at Meadow Park by reading a book and talking about different fun ways to help their classmates and friends by making sure that EveryONE Counts! The pre-kindergarten class was very special to me because I student taught in this classroom last fall! We had so much fun!

At Harmony Grove I spoke to all of the kindergarten classes and first graders about EveryONE Counts and standing up for themselves and their friends. We also talked about different ways to make a difference at their school and how they can treat their classmates to show them that they matter.

EveryONE Counts with Smackover Elementary

I had the opportunity to speak with 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders at Smackover Elementary! I got to speak to the students about children with disabilities and bullying. I have previously spoken with 3rd and 4th grade, but this was the first time for me to speak to 5th and 6th graders. I had two big assemblies one with the 3rd and 4th graders and one with the 5th and 6th graders. I read a book, used visual posters, and gave them all bracelets! With the older grades I talked to them more about how serious bullying really is in our society and that the 5th and 6th grade is the targeted age of when bullying really becomes serious and gets severe. I gave them tips on how to help others and shared my story about being bullied in high school and it really helped some of the students relate to me. The most important part of both of the assemblies was telling the students that sometimes it only takes one person to stand up to be nice and help other people because EveryONE Counts! Their bracelets I gave them to wear remind them to make everyone feel like they matter and count every single day.

My teen queen, Haley Bird, came to help me hand out bracelets at both of the assemblies. I had a teacher from the 4th grade write on my facebook wall today and say that she overheard one of their 4th graders say to another kid "I'm going to go see if that boy wants to play with us...He looks sad" she said then he held up his wrist with his bracelet on it and said "EveryONE Counts". The teacher said it almost made her cry! It's so exciting to see that what I talked to the children about really got through to them. It's so gratifying to see that just by taking the time to speak to children and relating to what they are going through can make such a difference in their lives! The children at  Smackover are taking action and making a difference in our schools!
